Kolkata: Investigating officers of the Kolkata Police have stated in their chargesheet that DNA evidence has corroborated the role of prime accused Monojit alias ‘Mango’ Mishra in the alleged rape of a student inside South Calcutta Law College.

According to police sources, DNA test results of samples recovered from the 24-year-old survivor’s clothes matched those of Mishra.

Blood samples from both the survivor and the accused had been collected for the forensic examination.

The chargesheet, filed before the Court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Alipore, names Mishra — an alumnus of the college — along with three others.

“DNA tests confirmed the presence of both the survivor and the accused at the crime spot, inside the institution’s guard room. The report is a crucial piece of evidence in this case,” a senior officer told PTI.

The chargesheet also cites CCTV footage from the college premises as well as two nearby shops, which investigators claim corroborates the crime.

“The footage establishes that the assault took place in the guard’s room. It also shows the roles of the other accused — Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed — who remained outside, as well as the involvement of the security guard,” the officer added.

Investigators are still awaiting forensic reports of voice samples collected from the accused persons’ mobile phones. Once received, police said a supplementary chargesheet will be filed in court.
