Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Sunday expelled his elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, from the party for six years, citing a violation of family values and public conduct.

The decision follows a now-deleted Facebook post from Tej Pratap’s verified account, which claimed he was in a long-term romantic relationship with a woman named Anushka Yadav. The post quickly went viral and stirred a storm on social media, especially given Tej Pratap’s controversial marital history.

Lalu’s strong statement

Announcing the expulsion, Lalu Prasad issued a stern and emotional statement, “Ignoring moral values in personal life weakens our collective struggle for social justice. The activities, public conduct, and irresponsible behaviour of the eldest son are not by our family values and traditions,” the RJD leader said.

He added that Tej Pratap would have no role in the party or the family going forward and urged others to take their own decisions regarding any future association with him.

“From now on, he will not have any role of any kind in the party and family… The obedient members of the family have adopted and followed this idea in public life,” Lalu added.

Tej Pratap responds

Reacting to the controversy, Tej Pratap Yadav claimed that his Facebook page was hacked and the viral post was fabricated.

“My social media platform was hacked and my photographs were edited wrongfully,” he wrote on X, alleging an attempt to “defame and harass” him and his family members.

Many social media users responded with criticism, pointing to Tej Pratap’s marriage in 2018 to Aishwarya Rai, granddaughter of former Bihar CM Daroga Rai. That marriage ended in controversy within months, with Aishwarya accusing her husband and in-laws of mistreatment and walking out of the marriage.

It is currently unclear whether Tej Pratap has filed a formal police complaint regarding the alleged hacking.
