Idukki: Kerala Congress (Joseph), a key constituent of the United Democratic Front (UDF), has demanded the same 10 seats it contested in the 2021 Assembly elections during ongoing seat-sharing discussions, while indicating it is open to adjustments.

The Kerala Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on April 9. Party chairman P. J. Joseph said that discussions with the Congress took place on Sunday night, during which the party reiterated its claim to the constituencies it previously contested.

However, Joseph acknowledged that compromises may be necessary as part of alliance negotiations. He said the final list of constituencies is expected to be announced by Tuesday.

According to Joseph, the Congress has sought the Idukki seat, which was contested by Kerala Congress (Joseph) in 2021. He noted that relinquishing the constituency would be difficult, but confirmed that talks within the alliance would continue.

He added that seat-sharing arrangements with other UDF partners are expected to be finalised within two days, after which the party will hold internal discussions before announcing its candidates. Details regarding his own candidature from Thodupuzha will be disclosed alongside the broader announcement.

Kerala Congress (Joseph) contested 10 seats in the 2021 Assembly elections and secured two victories. Reports suggest the Congress is exploring a possible exchange of constituencies, including Idukki and Kuttanad, in return for offering alternative seats to the party as negotiations continue.
