Bijapur (Karnataka): Security forces have seized a large quantity of explosives and bomb-making materials from Maoists in Bijapur, preventing a potentially major attack, officials said on Monday.
The operation was conducted by a joint team of Cobra 206, CRPF 229, 153, and 196 units from Talpada Base Camp in the KGB foothills area around 3 pm. During the search, the team recovered 51 live BGLs, 100 bundles of HT aluminium wire, 50 steel pipes, 40 iron plates, and 20 iron sheets used for making BGLs, along with a substantial amount of electrical wire.
Additionally, five pressure IEDs planted to target security personnel were safely defused with the help of the Bomb Disposal (BD) team. Officials said the haul indicates that the Maoists were planning a major attack, which was successfully thwarted through vigilant patrolling and timely action.
Meanwhile, in Manipur, police arrested an active cadre of the KCP (PWG) from Bishnupur. The arrested individual, identified as 42-year-old Moirangthem Mohen Singh of Sagolband Tera Sayang Leirak, Imphal West, was found in possession of one SM carbine with a magazine, two AK magazines, 24 rounds of AK ammunition, a camouflage T-shirt, a mobile phone, and two SIM cards.
Police also recovered approximately 3 kg of heroin, eight bottles of psychotropic Tussrex-TR syrup, cash proceeds from drug sales amounting to Rs 9,57,000, one SBBL gun with two cartridges, a four-wheeler, and four mobile phones from Singh’s possession.
Authorities said continuous patrolling and search operations remain ongoing in both areas to prevent further Maoist and criminal activities.
