Bengaluru: Continuous heavy rainfall in the Bengaluru Urban district has led to a holiday for all Anganwadi centres and private and aided primary and secondary schools on Wednesday. This announcement was made by Jagadeesh G, Chairman of the Bengaluru Urban District Disaster Management Authority and Deputy Commissioner.

However, the holiday does not apply to degree, postgraduate, diploma, engineering, and ITI colleges.

Advisory for college authorities

College principals have been advised to consider student safety when holding classes. They must ensure students can travel safely and that classes are not held in weak or old buildings. Principals are also responsible for checking the safety of college structures and taking steps to avoid any accidents.

The district administration suggested making up for any lost class time by holding extra sessions on Saturday afternoons or Sundays. Parents, principals, and students are encouraged to stay away from waterlogged areas and ensure the safety of the vehicles used by students. Colleges should also inform students on how to handle natural disasters.

Bengaluru has been experiencing heavy rain, especially on Tuesday, when downpours from the afternoon into the evening flooded many roads. Children returning from school faced challenges walking home through the water.

The ongoing rainfall has disrupted daily life in Bengaluru and across the state, causing significant inconvenience. The meteorological department has forecasted more moderate to heavy rain in Bengaluru over the next five days.
