Karnataka: The labour minister Santosh Lad on Wednesday provided clarifications on the controversy regarding Karnataka cabinet’s approval of a bill mandating 100 percent reservation for Kannadigas in the private sector for Group C and D posts. He clarified that it is 50% and 70% quota, not 100.
On Tuesday, the Karnataka cabinet had approved a Bill that seeks to reserve 50 per cent of management jobs and 75 percent of non-management jobs for locals in the private sector. The bill also seeks 100 per cent reservation for locals in "C&D'' grade government jobs.
To this, several industry leaders in the state had objected to the move saying that it is "discriminatory" and raised apprehensions that the tech industry may suffer.
Earlier Siddaramaiah had also shared a post on X saying "It is our government's wish that the Kannadigas should avoid being deprived of jobs in the land of Kannada and should be given an opportunity to build a comfortable life in the motherland. We are a pro-Kannada government. Our priority is to look after the welfare of Kannadigas."
Facing backlashes the Karnataka Chief Minister also has deleted post on X
