Bengaluru: Bengaluru Metro commuters were in for a shock as the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) implemented a fare revision that resulted in steep price hikes on several routes. Addressing public outrage, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took to social media to assure corrective measures.

"The way Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has implemented the Bengaluru Metro fare revision has led to anomalies, with fares more than doubling in certain sections. I have asked the MD of BMRCL to urgently address these issues and reduce fares where increases are abnormal," Siddaramaiah tweeted.

The fare revision, which was meant to rationalise ticket prices, has instead led to unexpected jumps in metro costs, sparking criticism from daily commuters and opposition leaders alike. Several passengers have complained about the lack of transparency in the new pricing structure and its impact on affordability.

With Bengaluru's infamous traffic congestion, the metro system is a crucial lifeline for thousands of daily commuters. The recent fare hike has raised concerns about accessibility and affordability, particularly for students, low-income workers, and daily metro users.
