The Karnataka government is preparing to host its first international job fair in Bengaluru in January 2026, aimed at connecting skilled workers with employment opportunities in companies based outside India. Drawing inspiration from Kerala’s overseas employment initiatives, the event marks Karnataka’s maiden attempt to organise a global recruitment platform of this scale.

According to a report by The New Indian Express, the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood is leading this major exercise to support skilled labourers seeking placements with overseas employers.

The move comes at a time when several international markets—especially in Europe, the Gulf and the Middle East—are facing growing demand for professionals such as nurses, paramedical caretakers, plumbers, carpenters, mechanics and other trained workers.

As cited in the report, Manoj Kumar Meena, Secretary of the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, stated that India possesses a substantial talent pool and that many countries are actively seeking skilled manpower. The report stated that the department has already begun approaching foreign companies, consulates and recruitment agencies, while also planning roadshows in a few countires to highlight Karnataka’s skilled workforce.

Drawing insights from Kerala’s approach, the department is arranging a nursing conclave to support trained nurses from Karnataka in securing placements abroad. Karnataka, which hosts an International Migration Centre under the Ministry of External Affairs, is ensuring that all processes adhere to ethical migration standards.

The report further mentioned that Karnataka’s Government Tool Room and Training Centre (GTTC) will play a key role, as approvals have been received to set up German labs in two GTTC centres. These labs will offer German language training alongside technical skill development.

Workers shortlisted for overseas job roles will undergo a year-long language training programme, for which tenders will soon be invited to select competent training agencies.

According to the report, the training will go beyond basic language skills, considering that candidates will interact with elderly individuals and patients abroad. Assessments will be conducted and proficiency certificates issued upon completion.
