Chennai: Celebrating eight years of Makkal Needhi Maiyam (MNM), party leader Kamal Haasan addressed his supporters in Chennai, delivering a speech that emphasized Tamil linguistic pride and political aspirations. Hoisting the party flag at MNM headquarters, Haasan reflected on Tamil Nadu’s long-standing opposition to the imposition of Hindi, warning against undermining the linguistic identity of Tamilians.

"Tamilians have lost their lives for a language. Don't play with those things," Haasan asserted, reinforcing the deep-rooted sentiment for Tamil autonomy. He highlighted how even children in Tamil Nadu are aware of their linguistic rights, rejecting the need for external influence in language choices.

Haasan also responded to criticism of his political journey, admitting that he may have entered politics too late. "I feel I lost because I entered politics too late. If I had entered 20 years ago, my speech and position would have been different," he remarked, acknowledging his delayed foray into public service.

Looking ahead, Haasan set the stage for MNM’s political ambitions, stating that this year, the party’s voice will be heard in Parliament, and by next year, it will resonate in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. Urging his cadres to prepare for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, he stressed the need for strong grassroots participation.

"Today we are 8 years old, like a child growing up. This year, our voice will be heard in Parliament, and next year, your voices will reflect in the Assembly," he declared, signaling MNM’s determination to expand its political presence.

With the Tamil Nadu elections on the horizon, Haasan’s speech reaffirmed MNM’s commitment to linguistic pride and political change, setting the tone for the party’s future electoral battles.
