Two sisters were found dead in Jodhpur hours before their scheduled double wedding, triggering police investigation amid allegations of family pressure

Jodhpur: Two sisters were found dead at their home in Manai village in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, just a day before their planned wedding ceremony scheduled for Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Shobha (25) and Vimla (23), were school teachers and daughters of Deep Singh. According to police officials, wedding celebrations were continuing at the family home late Friday night. Around midnight, the sisters went to their room to sleep.

Family members later noticed that the sisters’ health had suddenly deteriorated at around 4 am. They were immediately taken to a private hospital in Jodhpur, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigation suggests the possibility that the sisters may have consumed a poisonous substance, but the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after post-mortem reports are received. No suicide note has been recovered so far.
Police intervened when the family initially began preparing for last rites without conducting a post-mortem. Authorities reached the location around 6 am and shifted the bodies to the MGH mortuary for forensic examination before handing them back to the family later.
A relative of the deceased has alleged that family pressure may have contributed to the incident. The relative claimed that members from the father’s side of the family had earlier pressured arrangements for marriage alliances that did not materialise, allegedly creating emotional stress.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are currently investigating the allegations. Officials said it would be premature to confirm the exact reason behind the deaths until forensic and post-mortem reports are available.
The incident has raised concerns about mental health, social pressure surrounding marriages, and family conflicts in parts of rural Rajasthan. Authorities are examining digital records, family statements, and possible toxic substance exposure as part of the probe.
