In 2023, Jharkhand's Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, introduced a unique initiative, offering free coaching to students from Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) at the Dr. Ram Dayal Munda Tribal Welfare Research Institute. This first-of-its-kind scheme aims to provide equal opportunities for tribal students to excel in competitive exams, bridging the gap in access to quality education.

The program initially targeted students preparing for the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) exams, with 156 candidates shortlisted from eight PVTG tribes including Asur, Mal Paharia, Sauria Paharia, and Birhor. The scheme has now expanded to include all 32 tribes of Jharkhand, offering coaching for the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) exams.

Speaking about the initiative, beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the support, highlighting the financial relief it offers. "Money plays a very important role that could become an obstacle in the way of studying. My study was free of charge, which was very helpful for me", said Pratima Kumari, a beneficiary from Pithauriya.

The government allocated Rs 60 lakh in 2023, increasing the budget to over Rs 1 crore in 2024, reflecting the state's commitment to empowering its tribal communities. By equipping students with the tools they need to succeed in state-level exams, the initiative aims to enhance tribal representation in Jharkhand's bureaucracy and policymaking.
