Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh: A seemingly routine snack purchase at Jabalpur railway station took an unexpected turn when a digital payment failure led to a scuffle between a passenger and a samosa vendor. The incident that has since gone viral and prompted swift action from railway authorities.

The altercation occurred on Friday, at approximately 5:30 pm on Platform 5. According to eyewitnesses and a widely circulated video, a passenger disembarked from a train and attempted to purchase samosas using UPI (Unified Payments Interface). However, the transaction failed.

As the train began to depart, the passenger reportedly returned the samosas and tried to board the train. At this point, the vendor forcibly stopped him, grabbed him by the collar, and demanded payment despite the failed transaction.

In the video, the visibly nervous passenger can be seen trying to explain the failed payment. Pressed for time and anxious not to miss his train, he ultimately removed his smartwatch and handed it over to the vendor as collateral. Only then did the vendor release him and allow him to leave, handing over two plates of samosas in exchange.

The footage, now viral on social media, triggered widespread outrage over passenger safety and vendor behaviour at railway stations. Many online users condemned the vendor’s aggressive conduct and questioned the lack of oversight on station platforms.

In response, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Jabalpur Division, reportedly confirmed that the vendor involved has been identified and taken into custody by the Railway Protection Force (RPF). A statement issued by the DRM also confirmed that action has been initiated to cancel the vendor’s licence.

As investigations continue, railway authorities have assured the public that stricter measures will be taken to ensure passenger safety and accountability among licensed vendors.
