A viral video claiming that a loco pilot stopped a passenger train to buy samosas has prompted a railway inquiry, even as Western Railway said the footage had been wrongly linked to an Indore-Mhow DEMU service.

The video, widely shared on social media, appeared to show a railway staff member buying snacks from a shop beside the tracks while a train was stationary. Several posts alleged the train had been deliberately stopped for the purchase, drawing criticism online.

Railways says video misrepresented

The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Western Railway, Ratlam Division, responded to the viral claims on X after a user posted: "Just found out why the train is late. The loco pilot likes the samosas here. So he stops the train for them!!"

In its response, the DRM clarified that the incident did not involve the Indore-Mhow DEMU passenger train.

According to the railway authority, the train seen in the video was a goods train identified as CGPT, hauled by locomotive numbers 27237 and 27600. It had been halted at the RAU Home Signal because engineering work was being carried out in the RAU yard.

The railway further said that during the scheduled halt, the Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) was seen purchasing samosas and kachoris from a nearby shop.

It stressed that the train was not stopped for the purpose of buying food and alleged that the video had been shared with "the wrong intention" by falsely linking the stoppage to a passenger DEMU train.

Inquiry ordered after video goes viral

Separately, reports said the Railways has ordered a probe after the video gained widespread attention on social media.

The inquiry comes amid public discussion over the circumstances shown in the clip and the claims made alongside it.

The viral footage has continued to attract attention online.
