Poonch: Indian Army troops have successfully scuttled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir, killing two suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists. The operation, codenamed 'Shivshakti', concluded on Wednesday morning after a prolonged gunfight that began late Tuesday night.
The Army's Jammu-based White Knight Corps confirmed the operation, stating on X: "In a successful anti-infiltration operation, alert troops of the Indian Army eliminated two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control. Swift action and accurate firepower thwarted the nefarious designs. Three weapons have been recovered."
Officials reported that troops on ambush duty, acting on intelligence inputs about a possible LeT infiltration attempt, observed the movement of terrorists in the Maldivalan area of Degwar sector late Tuesday night. The terrorists opened fire, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire that lasted for several hours. During the encounter, two terrorists were hit. A search operation launched with the first light of day confirmed both terrorists were deceased.
The Army highlighted that this successful operation was a result of "synergistic and synchronised intelligence inputs" from its own intelligence units and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
This latest encounter follows closely on the heels of another significant operation two days prior, where security forces eliminated three hardcore terrorists, reportedly involved in the Pahalgam terror attack, in a forest in Srinagar.
