Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lay the foundation stone for Amul's Rs 650 crore dairy project in West Bengal on Sunday. The facility, touted as the world's largest curd manufacturing plant, is expected to boost dairy infrastructure and create significant employment opportunities in the state.

West Bengal's industrial revival could receive a major boost on Sunday as Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to lay the foundation stone for Amul Bengal Dairy's ambitious curd production facility.
The ceremony will be held at Kolkata's Biswa Bangla Convention Centre and is expected to be attended by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Industries Minister Tapas Roy, and other senior dignitaries.
Billed as the world's largest curd manufacturing plant, the upcoming facility will have the capacity to produce 10 lakh kg of curd, lassi, buttermilk and other dairy products every day.
The project is expected to significantly strengthen the state's dairy ecosystem while creating employment and business opportunities across the supply chain.
The plant will be developed at the Salkia Food Park in Howrah with an investment of around Rs 650 crore.
It will also be Amul's first fully owned dairy manufacturing facility in the country. According to officials, the project will be constructed in two phases by a Gujarat-based company.
The launch comes amid renewed claims of an industrial resurgence in West Bengal following the change in government.
In recent months, several major investment announcements have been made, including Lux Cozi's expansion in Dankuni and Shyam Steel's Rs 10,000 crore manufacturing unit at Mejia in Bankura.
The Amul project is being projected as another milestone in the state's efforts to attract large-scale industrial investment.
Amul, already the largest seller of dairy products in West Bengal with daily sales of around 10 lakh litres, is expected to substantially increase its production capacity once the facility becomes operational.
Company sources say the memorandum of understanding for the project was signed in 2025, while the new administration has accelerated its execution. Reports also indicate that Amul is exploring further investments in North Bengal as part of its long-term expansion plans.
