New Delhi: The warm hospitality extended to Russian President Vladimir Putin during the recent state banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu was highlighted by an array of regional Indian delicacies that embraced the richness of the country’s culinary heritage. Among the carefully curated offerings was a quintessential South Indian snack that brought a distinctive crunch and flavour to the evening, 'Murakku,' perfectly complementing the diverse flavours on the menu.

This multicultural dinner featured an eclectic mix of dishes, including aromatic curries, dry fruit and saffron pulao, and an assortment of breads like Lachha Parantha and Magaz Naan. Guests savoured specialities such as Gucchi Doon Chetin, stuffed morels paired with Kashmiri walnut chutney, and the tangy, spiced Achaari Baingan alongside traditional Yellow Dal Tadka. For a sweet finale that thoughtfully countered the chill of the national capital, comforting Badam Ka Halwa was served.

The banquet also paid homage to India-Russia cultural ties through an evocative musical landscape. The Naval band and a classical ensemble performed a blend of Indian classical ragas and Bollywood classics, including a piece from a Shah Rukh Khan film, as well as iconic Russian folk tunes like Kalinka. Masterful renditions on the sarod, sarangi, and tabla were complemented by a tribute to Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's 'The Nutcracker Suite,' further emphasising the deep cultural connection celebrated during the evening.
