Indore: Two Australian women cricketers participating in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup were allegedly stalked and molested by a man on a motorcycle in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, police said on Saturday.
According to police, the incident took place on Thursday morning along Khajrana Road, when the players had stepped out of their hotel for a walk to a nearby café.
A bike-borne man reportedly began following them and allegedly touched one of the players inappropriately before fleeing the spot.
The cricketers immediately informed their team’s security officer, Danny Simmons, who alerted local security liaison officers and arranged for their safe return.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra and Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi met the players and recorded their statements. Following a complaint, an FIR was filed at the MIG police station under Sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused, identified as Akhil Khan, was arrested shortly after the incident. Police said a bystander who witnessed the act had noted down the motorcycle’s registration number, helping officers trace the suspect.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and the Australian team management has been kept informed of developments.
