External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke to Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, conveying India’s “fullest support” after a deadly terror attack at Sydney’s Bondi Beach during Hanukkah celebrations that left 15 people dead.

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday conveyed India’s “fullest support” to Australia following a deadly terror attack at Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach that targeted a Jewish celebration and left at least 15 people dead.
In a phone conversation with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Jaishankar expressed India’s deepest condolences to the victims and their families.
“Just spoke to Australian Foreign Minister @SenatorWong. Conveyed our deepest condolences about the Bondi Beach terrorist attack and offered our fullest support,” Jaishankar said in a post on social media.
Hours earlier, the External Affairs Minister had strongly condemned the attack, which took place during Hanukkah celebrations. “Condemn in the strongest terms the terror attack on Hanukkah celebrations in Bondi Beach. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families,” he said.
According to Australian authorities, two gunmen opened fire at the event on Sunday, killing 15 people and injuring over 40 others. The attackers were later identified as a father-son duo — Sajid Akram and Naveed Akram. The father was shot dead by police at the scene, while the son sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the incident as a “dark moment” for the country, calling it a targeted attack on Jewish Australians on the first day of Hanukkah.
“This should have been a day of joy and celebration of faith,” Albanese said, adding that security agencies were working to identify anyone linked to the attack. The shooting comes amid a recent wave of antisemitic incidents reported across Australia.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among global leaders who condemned the attack. “Strongly condemn the ghastly terrorist attack carried out today at Bondi Beach, Australia, targeting people celebrating the first day of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah,” Modi said on X.
Reaffirming India’s stance, he added that the country has “zero tolerance towards terrorism” and stands firmly with Australia in its fight against all forms of terror.
