Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed triggered a fresh controversy on social media after she defended Ranveer Singh’s film Dhurandhar Part 1 and told a critic to “leave India” during a heated exchange on X.

The argument erupted after Mohamed praised the film’s direction.

The dispute began on Thursday when Mohamed posted that she had recently watched the film and called its direction “excellent.” Her comment quickly drew backlash from a user who accused the film of showing Muslims in a “bad light” and called it “propaganda.”

Responding sharply, Shama dismissed the allegation and said the film did not target Muslims but Pakistanis. She also accused the user of confusing the two identities and criticised him for his remarks.

“It did not show Muslims in bad light but Pakistanis in bad light ! Shame on you for confusing the two. People like you spoil the name of Muslims in India. You are most welcome to leave India & take the citizenship of Pakistan,” she wrote on X.

The exchange escalated further after the user continued to defend his criticism, insisting the film was propaganda and alleging it depicted a political figure as an ISI agent without evidence. He also reiterated that he did not support terrorism “whether Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians or Jews.”

The post triggered mixed reactions online, with several users questioning the claim that the film portrayed Muslims negatively, while others defended the criticism of its narrative.

The Ranveer Singh-starrer has already been at the centre of online debate, with critics arguing that it blends fiction with politically sensitive themes. YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has also described the film as “propaganda,” saying it mixes storytelling with real-world political references.

However, supporters of the film and some industry voices have defended it, calling it a fictional work that should be viewed as creative expression rather than political messaging.
