New Delhi: In a major revamp of the country's postal service, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday announced that India Post will roll out guaranteed delivery services for Speed Post and parcels, with 24-hour and 48-hour timelines, starting January 2026.

The move aims to reduce the current delivery window, typically 3 to 5 days, and elevate India Post’s status as a competitive logistics and e-commerce partner.

"We are going to launch new products with guaranteed delivery of mails and parcels. There will be 24-hour Speed Post service which will ensure delivery of mails within 24 hours. Similarly, there will be a 48-hour Speed Post for delivery within 48 hours," Scindia said.

In addition to mail services, next-day parcel delivery will also be introduced as part of India Post’s broader modernisation strategy.

The minister emphasised that the government is committed to transforming India Post from a cost centre into a profit centre by 2029, driven by innovation, digitisation, and service excellence.

This initiative is seen as a key part of the government’s strategy to revitalise the national postal network and position it as a viable player in the logistics and parcel delivery market.
