The Supreme Court has refused to urgently hear a plea seeking to halt the India-Pakistan cricket match scheduled in Dubai on September 14, despite arguments that it sends the “wrong message” amid terror attacks and military operations

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to urgently list a plea seeking an interim stay on the upcoming India-Pakistan cricket match scheduled in Dubai on September 14.
A bench of Justices JK Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi said the match should proceed as planned, rejecting the petitioner’s request for an urgent hearing on Friday.
The petition, filed by advocate Urvashi Jain, argued that holding the match in the backdrop of the Pahalgam terror attack and the ongoing Operation Sindoor would send a “wrong message” to the public and the armed forces.
“While our soldiers are risking their lives fighting infiltrations and citizens are falling prey to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, organising a cricket match with Pakistan conveys insensitivity and undermines national morale,” the plea stated.
The petition further claimed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) functions like “a nation within a nation,” and under the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, does not qualify as a recognised National Sports Federation (NSF). It urged that the BCCI should be brought under the jurisdiction of the National Sports Board (NSB).
However, the court refused to intervene, effectively clearing the way for the high-profile match to go ahead in Dubai on Sunday.
