Paras Defence and Heven Drones forge strategic JV to manufacture advanced drones in India

In a significant move to bolster India's indigenous drone manufacturing capabilities, Paras Defence and Space Technologies Ltd. has entered into a strategic joint venture with Israel's Heven Drones. The collaboration aims to design, develop, and produce advanced logistics and cargo drones tailored for both defence and civilian applications within India.

Formation of Paras Heven Drones India

The newly established entity, Paras Heven Drones India, will focus on the development of drones capable of carrying payloads ranging from 10 kg to 40 kg. These drones are intended for diverse applications, including border logistics, tactical surveillance, high-altitude missions, and critical supply chain operations. A notable feature of this venture is the integration of Heven Drones' proprietary hydrogen-powered technology, which offers extended flight endurance and enhanced operational efficiency.

Paras Defence will hold a majority stake of 51% in the joint venture, ensuring compliance with India's Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) norms in the defense sector. Heven Drones will contribute its technological expertise, including the transfer of intellectual property, production manuals, and working prototypes. The governance structure will comprise a board with equal representation from both companies, jointly appointing key executive positions such as CEO, CFO, and COO.

Strategic Alignment with 'Make in India' Initiative

This partnership aligns with the Indian government's 'Make in India' initiative, aiming to reduce dependency on foreign imports and promote domestic manufacturing in the defense sector. By leveraging Paras Defence's manufacturing infrastructure and Heven Drones' advanced technology, the joint venture seeks to produce cost-effective drones domestically, potentially reducing costs by approximately 20% compared to imported models.

Munjal Sharad Shah, Managing Director of Paras Defence, stated: "India is a priority market for drone deployment at scale, and Heven Drones’ combat-tested portfolio provides a strategic edge. This JV enables us to deliver world-class Made in India drone systems for local and global markets."

Market Implications and Financial Performance

The announcement of the joint venture has positively impacted Paras Defence's market performance. The company's shares have surged significantly, reflecting investor confidence in the strategic direction and growth prospects. This uptick is further supported by Paras Defence's robust financial results for FY25, which include a near doubling of net profit, a 35.8% increase in revenue, and expanded EBITDA margins of 26.2%. The company also boasts a strong order book exceeding ₹900 crore, underscoring its solid market position.

Future Outlook

The formation of Paras Heven Drones India marks a pivotal step in advancing India's capabilities in unmanned aerial systems. By combining domestic manufacturing strength with cutting-edge technology, the joint venture is poised to meet the growing demand for versatile and efficient drones in both defense and civilian sectors. This collaboration not only enhances India's self-reliance in critical defense technologies but also positions the country as a competitive player in the global drone market.

As the joint venture progresses, it is expected to contribute significantly to India's defense preparedness and technological advancement, aligning with national objectives of innovation, self-sufficiency, and strategic autonomy.
