Guwahati: Senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam for a second consecutive term on Tuesday, marking the formation of the third successive NDA government in the state.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Veterinary Ground in Khanapara, Guwahati, where Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office. The event witnessed a large gathering of top political leaders from the BJP and its allies, making it one of the most high-profile political events in the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the ceremony along with senior Union ministers including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nitin Gadkari. Former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was also present, along with several chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from BJP-ruled states.

Which ministers took oath in HBS 2.0 cabinet?

In the first expansion of the new Assam cabinet, several senior and alliance leaders took oath as ministers alongside Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Those who were sworn in include:

  • Ajanta Neog (BJP)
  • Atul Bora (AGP)
  • Charan Boro (BPF)
  • Rameswar Teli (BJP)

The oath-taking marks a key milestone for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which secured a strong mandate in the state. The alliance won 102 seats in the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly, delivering a decisive majority.

Out of this, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alone secured 82 seats, while its allies the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) won 10 seats each.
