DK Shivakumar was sworn in as Karnataka Chief Minister on Wednesday, while G Parameshwara took oath as Deputy Chief Minister. Thirteen legislators also joined the new cabinet.

Bengaluru: Congress leader DK Shivakumar on Wednesday took oath as the 34th Chief Minister of Karnataka at a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan. Senior Congress leader G Parameshwara was also sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister.
In a symbolic gesture during the swearing-in ceremony, Shivakumar carried a copy of the Constitution of India while taking the oath of office.
Among those present were Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal, signalling strong support from the party leadership for the new government.
Shivakumar, a key architect of the Congress victory in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections, has represented the Kanakapura Assembly constituency for eight consecutive terms. He has served as Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president since 2020 and is widely credited with strengthening the party's organisation in the state.
Before taking oath, the new Chief Minister met several religious leaders and sought blessings from seers attending the ceremony. He also sought blessings from his mother, touching her feet before proceeding to the venue.
Reacting to the swearing-in, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu praised Shivakumar's long association with the Congress and expressed confidence in his leadership.
Sukhu said Shivakumar had worked for the party for many years and would carry forward the policies implemented by the previous Congress government under Siddaramaiah.
