Heavy rains in Delhi cause waterlogging, flight delays, and a house collapse resulting in four deaths. IMD issues weather alert.

New Delhi: Heavy rains lashed Delhi in the early hours of Friday, leading to widespread waterlogging, flight delays, and a tragic incident in Najafgarh where four people, including three children lost their lives after a house collapsed due to the downpour.
According to officials, the incident occurred in Kharkari Nahar village in Najafgarh around 5:25 a.m. “We received a call regarding a house collapse and immediately dispatched multiple teams to the site. Four people were rescued from the debris and rushed to the hospital, where they were declared dead,” a Delhi Fire Services official confirmed. Police have been informed, and further investigations are underway.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited Majnu Ka Tilla to assess the situation as rain-triggered chaos unfolded across several parts of the city.
"In some places, there are no drains; in others, the drains are clogged, and in some, the roads are damaged. Delhi is in a very bad state and needs urgent improvement. It is an alarming situation, and all departments and agencies must take today's rain as a warning to begin addressing areas prone to waterlogging. We have directed our officers and departments to take immediate action wherever there is issue of waterlogging," she added.
Flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport were also impacted earlier in the day. According to an advisory issued by the Delhi Airport, three Delhi-bound flights were diverted—one to Ahmedabad and two to Jaipur—due to inclement weather and thunderstorms.
While normal operations will resumed by Friday afternoon, the airport has cautioned passengers to stay updated through their respective airlines. “Following the advisory issued by the India Meteorological Department this morning, we would like to confirm that the airport is operating as normal, despite some impact on flight operations due to adverse weather conditions. Our on-ground teams are diligently working with all stakeholders to ensure a seamless and efficient passenger experience. Passengers are requested to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest flight updates,” the advisory stated.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert early Friday, warning of severe weather conditions across the Delhi NCR region. Residents have been urged to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the ongoing rainfall.
