The Centre has called an all-party meeting on March 25 to discuss the escalating West Asia crisis and its impact on India’s economy and security

New Delhi: The Government of India has convened an all-party meeting on March 25 at 5 PM to deliberate on the ongoing crisis in West Asia and its implications for the country. The move comes amid growing concerns over disruptions to global trade routes, energy supplies, and regional stability.
The decision to hold the meeting follows a series of high-level reviews by the government. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a security preparedness meeting earlier in the day, attended by top military leadership and officials, to assess India’s defence readiness in light of recent developments.
West Asia conflict enters fourth week
The conflict in West Asia has entered its fourth week, significantly affecting global trade routes, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical corridor for oil and gas shipments. The disruption has triggered volatility in global energy markets and raised concerns about economic stability worldwide.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described the situation as “worrisome”, highlighting its impact on the global economy, energy supplies, and humanitarian conditions. He recently briefed Parliament on the issue, noting that a significant portion of India’s crude oil and gas imports come from the affected region.
Strategic importance of West Asia for India
The region remains vital for India not only as a major energy supplier but also as a key trade route connecting the country with global markets. Any prolonged disruption could affect fuel availability, fertiliser supply, and broader economic activity.
While the government has emphasised preparedness and diplomatic engagement, opposition parties have criticised the Prime Minister’s earlier remarks in Parliament. The upcoming all-party meeting is expected to provide a platform for broader political consensus on India’s response to the crisis.
Overall, the meeting signals the government’s attempt to build a unified national approach as geopolitical tensions in West Asia continue to impact global and domestic dynamics.
