Panaji/New Delhi: Thai authorities on Tuesday deported Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra, co-owners of the Goa nightclub where 25 people were killed in a fire on December 6, to India.
The deportation comes as authorities continue to probe the deadly blaze, which sparked widespread outrage and raised serious questions about safety violations and lapses by the nightclub management.
The Luthra brothers, co-owners of ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ in Arpora, North Goa, had reportedly left for Phuket, Thailand, shortly after the fire. An Interpol Blue Corner Notice was issued against them, prompting international attention.
They were detained by Thai authorities on December 11 following intervention by the Indian mission, which maintained close contact with the Thai government throughout the investigation. Videos circulating online showed the brothers at Bangkok airport ahead of their deportation.
On arrival in India, the Luthras will be handed over to Indian authorities for further legal proceedings. Meanwhile, five managers and staff members of the nightclub have already been arrested by Goa Police in connection with the tragedy.
