Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has alleged that Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi travelled to Pakistan

Guwahati: Addressing a press gathering in Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged for the first time that Congress deputy leader Gaurav Gogoi had secretly travelled to Pakistan on an invitation issued by the Inter-Services Intelligence and “received training” arranged by that country’s Home Department.
Sarma, who described the disclosure as a “national-security matter”, claimed the Assam government possesses documentary evidence of the trip and signalled that further action would follow once the documents are vetted. He also alleged that a Pakistan-based NGO with reported ISI links had transferred payments to Gogoi’s wife over a two-year period.
The Chief Minister criticised Gogoi for “never openly condemning Pakistan even during periods of heightened tension” and urged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to exclude the Lok Sabha MP from any sensitive delegations. Gogoi has not denied visiting Pakistan but has offered no details, and the Congress party had issued no response by press time.
The accusations deepen the BJP–Congress war of words over foreign-policy postures. Legal observers note that if Sarma’s documents confirm an unauthorised engagement with Pakistan’s intelligence apparatus, Gogoi could be investigated under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act as well as national-security sections of the Indian Penal Code.
