Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, has called for a prompt Supreme Court ruling on the high-profile Kolkata rape-murder case. In his comments, Ganguly praised the justice movement in Kolkata and stressed that the court's decision should serve as a global benchmark and deterrent against such crimes.

"I have not read today’s Supreme Court order, but like many others who have participated in this movement passionately and impartially, I want justice to prevail swiftly. It is crucial that the court delivers its verdict as soon as possible," Ganguly told reporters. He added, "The judgement should set an example for the world, ensuring that no one dares to commit such heinous acts in the future."

The Supreme Court is scheduled to review the RG Kar case on September 17, with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) instructed to submit a new status report.

Amidst this, the BJP has intensified calls for the dismissal of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal following the Supreme Court's focus on police roles. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, however, has requested patience. She noted, "The police commissioner offered his resignation last week, but with Durga Puja approaching, maintaining law and order is crucial. If you can wait a few days, it will not be a big issue," she added. (With inputs from Agencies)
