India responds to Pakistan’s unprovoked firing across LoC as tensions escalate following Pahalgam attack.

Srinagar: Amid escalating tensions following the Pahalgam attack, the Indian Army has once again responded to unprovoked small arms fire from the Pakistan Army across the Line of Control (LoC) during the night of May 4-5. The firing targeted various areas in Jammu and Kashmir, including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajauri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor.
Officials confirmed that the Indian Army retaliated promptly and in a proportionate manner to the firing from Pakistan. This marks the continuation of India's firm stance on defending its territory following a series of such incidents. The Pakistani forces had also engaged in similar activities on the night of May 3-4, prompting another round of effective retaliation from India.
This incident is part of a broader pattern that began on April 25-26 when the Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked firing. With the latest response, this marks the 11th consecutive day of India’s effective retaliation. Indian Army officials maintain that their response remains calibrated to the provocations from across the LoC.
Airspace Closure
In a further escalation, India closed its airspace to all Pakistani-registered aircraft on April 30, a significant move following the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, which killed 26 people. The Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) detailing the closure from April 30 to May 23. Earlier, the Director General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan held discussions on the ongoing ceasefire violations over the hotline on April 29, where India warned Pakistan to desist from further provocations.
