New Delhi: A 28-year-old housekeeping employee died after a fire broke out in the server room of Kosmos Hospital in Delhi’s Anand Vihar on Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Authorities received a PCR call about the incident at around 12:20 p.m. The fire reportedly started in the server room located on the ground floor of the multi-storey hospital on Vikas Marg.

Emergency services, including multiple fire tenders, were dispatched promptly and succeeded in bringing the blaze under control. As a precaution, eight patients were evacuated and shifted to nearby Pushpanjali Hospital.

Three hospital staff members: Amit (housekeeping), Har Devi, and Naresh (both from the dialysis unit) were rescued and taken to Pushpanjali Hospital. Amit was declared dead on arrival, while the other two were reported to be in stable condition, along with the evacuated patients.

Preliminary findings suggest Amit initially tried to escape to the rooftop but later locked himself inside a third-floor bathroom, possibly to evade the smoke. Investigators suspect he may have died due to smoke inhalation. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered, and the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. "A detailed investigation has been initiated to ascertain lapses, if any, in fire safety compliance at the hospital," a senior police officer mentioned.

Officials from the Delhi Fire Service confirmed that fire control operations were swift, and there was no further risk to the hospital structure or surrounding buildings.
