New Delhi: A message circulating on WhatsApp, which purports to be a preliminary investigation report on the recent crash of Air India Flight AI-171, has been officially declared fake by the Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit (PIB Fact Check).

The message, which has been widely forwarded on social media and messaging platforms, contains unauthenticated claims regarding the causes and circumstances of the crash that occurred on June 12, 2025, in Ahmedabad.

Responding to the misinformation, PIB Fact Check issued a public alert on X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“A #WhatsApp message, claiming to be a preliminary report on the crash of Air India Flight AI-171, is circulating widely. ❌This message is #Fake. ⚠️Always rely on official sources for accurate information.”

Authorities have urged the public to refrain from forwarding or believing in unverified content, especially during ongoing investigations.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and other competent aviation bodies are currently conducting a thorough probe into the incident, and no official report has been released so far.

In the wake of such tragedies, government agencies often face challenges from misinformation that spreads panic and confusion. Officials reiterate the importance of staying informed through verified government channels and recognised news agencies.

As the investigation into the AI-171 crash continues, citizens are advised to wait for formal announcements and avoid speculating or spreading unconfirmed details that could hinder rescue or legal efforts.
