Pakistan’s claims that India’s S-400 air defence system was destroyed during Operation Sindoor are false. India has officially dismissed the propaganda, with evidence showing the Sudarshan Chakra remained fully operational.

Pakistani propaganda handles are continuing to spread false claims about Operation Sindoor. During the operation, the Pakistani army had alleged it shot down India’s S-400/Sudarshan Chakra air defence system. India officially dismissed the claim as baseless. Months later, the propaganda handles have circulated another false claim related to Sudarshan, alleging that “India has admitted the S-400 was shot down in a Pakistani attack.” However, a review by the 'Mathrubhumi' Fact Check Desk found the claim to be false.
The S-400, known in India as the Sudarshan Chakra, is considered the most advanced air defence system in the world. It is a surface-to-air missile system that includes detection and targeting systems for enemy weapons, missiles capable of engaging enemy aircraft, and launchers. The long-range system, developed by Russia, is used by several countries, including India, China and Turkey, as well as by the Russian armed forces.

Pakistan had alleged that the S-400 was destroyed in the attack on the Adampur air base during Operation Sindoor. However, after the cease-fire between the two countries took effect, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Adampur military base on May 13 and displayed the S-400 behind the stage where he was delivering a speech. The move was seen at the time as a counter to Pakistan’s claims. In addition to the Sudarshan Chakra, Pakistan had also claimed to have destroyed Indian air bases at Suratgarh, Sirsa and Srinagar. But on May 10, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Army Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Air Force Wing Commander Vyomika Singh presented evidence clarifying that all those claims were false.
India has officially stated that all such claims made by Pakistan, including those about the S-400, are baseless and false. The Pakistan Army has also failed to provide any evidence to support its claims. The propaganda material consisted of fake images and videos. On Aug 9, at an event in Bangalore, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh said the S-400 air defence system played a crucial role in Operation Sindoor. “In Operation Sindoor, the Indian Air Force shot down five Pakistani fighter jets and one large aircraft. Our air defence systems did a wonderful job. The S-400 system which we recently bought has been a game changer,” he said.
Moreover, the Press Information Bureau of the central government has clarified through its official X handle that the current propaganda claiming “India has admitted that Pakistan destroyed the S-400” is completely false. Based on the available evidence, it can be confirmed that this claim is untrue.
