New Delhi: The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has reported a net addition of 21.04 lakh members in July 2025, according to official figures released recently.

Year-on-year data highlights a 5.55 percent rise in net payroll additions compared to July 2024, reflecting expanding job opportunities and greater awareness about employee benefits, supported by EPFO’s impactful outreach efforts.

In July 2025 alone, approximately 9.79 lakh new subscribers enrolled with EPFO. This surge is attributed to the increasing availability of jobs, heightened employee benefits awareness and the organisation’s successful engagement programmes.

A major portion of new registrations came from the 18-25 age group, with 5.98 lakh new subscribers accounting for 61.06 percent of the total additions.

Moreover, the net payroll addition for this age group reached around 9.13 lakh in July 2025, marking a 4.09 percent increase over the previous year. This aligns with the continuing trend of young, first-time job seekers entering the formal workforce.

The data also reveals that about 16.43 lakh members, who had previously exited the system, rejoined EPFO during July 2025 — a notable 12.12 percent growth compared to July 2024. These returning members switched employers but chose to transfer their provident fund accumulations instead of opting for final settlement, thereby securing their long-term financial benefits and social security.

Remarkable rise in female participation

Female participation is also on the rise, with around 2.80 lakh new female subscribers joining EPFO in July 2025. The net female payroll addition for the month stood at approximately 4.42 lakh, showing a modest year-over-year increase of 0.17 percent compared to July 2024. This growth signals a positive move towards a more inclusive and diverse workforce.

State-wise data indicates that the top five states and union territories contributed roughly 60.85 percent of the total net payroll additions in July 2025, adding about 12.80 lakh new members collectively.

Maharashtra led the pack, contributing 20.47 percent of the net payroll growth during the month.

Other states and UTs including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh each accounted for more than 5 percent of the total net payroll addition in July 2025.
