Gudalur: In a tragic incident, an elephant calf fell into a 30-foot well at Kurinji Nagar in Kolapalli here. 

The people who passed through the area spotted three wild elephants near the well. They informed the Forest Department officials who reached the spot and spotted the baby elephant inside the well. 

The officials chased away the wild jumbos. However, the mother elephant did not leave the area. It kept standing at the coffee plantation nearby. 

Meanwhile, the Forest officials started rescue operations using earth remover.
