In a major push towards electoral transparency ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has enabled voters to access detailed profiles of candidates through the “Know Your Candidates (KYC)” module on its ECINet platform.

The feature allows citizens to check key details about candidates contesting in ongoing and upcoming elections, including criminal antecedents, assets and liabilities, educational qualifications, and their verified social media handles.

The move is aimed at helping voters make more informed decisions at the ballot box.

The development comes as multiple states, including Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, gear up for Assembly polls, along with bye-elections in several constituencies.

With nominations underway in states like Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, voter awareness tools such as ECINet are expected to play a crucial role.

Users can access the KYC module under the “Conduct of Elections” section on ECINet. The platform also allows voters to download the complete affidavit (Form 26) submitted by candidates during nomination, ensuring full transparency.

How to check candidate details on ECINet KYC:

  1. Visit the official ECINet platform
  2. Click on the “Conduct of Elections” tab
  3. Select the “Know Your Candidates (KYC)” module
  4. Choose your state, constituency, and election phase
  5. Browse the list of contesting candidates
  6. Click on a candidate’s name to view details
  7. Download the affidavit (Form 26) for full disclosure

The Commission noted that ECINet integrates over 40 applications and portals into a single platform, making it one of the largest electoral service ecosystems globally.

In addition to candidate information, it offers services such as voter registration, electoral roll search, application tracking, and grievance redressal.

Tools like cVIGIL for reporting Model Code of Conduct violations and Saksham for accessible electoral services for persons with disabilities are also available on the platform.

With this initiative, the ECI aims to strengthen transparency, accountability, and voter participation in what is set to be a high-stakes electoral cycle across multiple states.
