Bora's release came after hours of uncertainty over her whereabouts, with the All India Students' Association (AISA) alleging that she had been moved between locations across Delhi for five hours before being traced to the RK Puram police station.

New Delhi: All India Students' Association (AISA) president Neha Bora was released on Saturday morning after a meeting with lawyers at the RK Puram police station, while Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke is to be produced before a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court following his detention by Delhi Police.
“Neha Bora was released after formal procedures under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act, while action under Section 126/170 of the BNSS was initiated against Abhijeet Dipke, who will be produced before the SEM court,” Delhi Police said in a statement.
Bora's release came after hours of uncertainty over her whereabouts. AISA had alleged that she was moved between locations across Delhi for five hours before being traced to the RK Puram police station.
The organisation had alleged that lawyers who reached the police station around midnight were initially denied permission to meet Bora. It also claimed that police had not clarified when she would be released and were refusing to provide her medicines despite knowing that she had been unwell for the past few days.
"The police is not allowing lawyers to meet Neha at RK Puram. They are not allowing medication to be given too," AISA said in a post on X, demanding to know the charges under which Bora was being held at the police station.
"Why is Delhi Police holding Neha until midnight in a police station? When will Neha be released? Why is a women student leader being put in a police station at midnight?" AISA said.
Meanwhile, the CJP had alleged that Dipke was taken to an undisclosed location following his detention and that the party had lost contact with him. His whereabouts remained a concern for the organisation until Delhi Police issued its statement on Saturday.
"The Delhi Police has taken Abhijeet Dipke to an undisclosed location. We have lost contact with him. He is not being allowed to talk to lawyers," the CJP said in a post on X.
"Why does this government treat youth like terrorists? We are equal citizens of India and we deserve all the protections and rights of the Constitution!" it said.
"Abhijeet was just walking out of his home with a Tiranga in his hand! How can walking with a tiranga be a crime?" the CJP asked, adding that the detentions would not deter people from joining the protests.
The CJP had also written to Delhi Police seeking information about Dipke's whereabouts.
In a letter addressed to the station house officer of Mandir Marg police station, CJP leader Rohan Deshpande said, "Since his detention, we have received no information regarding his present location or the police station or facility where he is being held. This lack of information is deeply concerning."
Deshpande urged Delhi Police to immediately confirm Dipke's whereabouts, the legal provisions invoked and the grounds communicated for his preventive detention.
He also sought details of the authority under whose directions Dipke had been detained and the officer responsible for his custody. He said police must ensure that Dipke was allowed to contact his colleagues and obtain access to legal counsel.
Former AISA president and CPI(ML) Liberation leader N Sai Balaji had earlier questioned the police over Bora's detention and the reported changes in her location.
"Delhi Police please answer why Neha was detained alone by plain clothed men in a bus? Her last location shows she was taken to Anti-Narcotics Cell, Mangalapuri. Then why is the PS (police station) saying she is not there," Balaji said.
"Is Delhi Police trying to kidnap her and arrest her," he questioned.
Balaji later alleged that police were moving Bora again after concerns were raised about her whereabouts and asked why she could not be released.
AISA also alleged that two people in plain clothes accompanying Bora in a van were not detainees and questioned whether she was safe.
In an earlier post on X, AISA had said Delhi Police refused to meet a delegation of lawyers and civil society members seeking her release. It called on people to gather in large numbers at Parliament Street police station to demand the release of detained protesters.
"It's 10 pm. The whereabouts of AISA's All India president Neha remains unknown," AISA had said.
The organisation said a delegation comprising AISA activist Anjali, advocate Manik Gupta, RTI activist Anjali Bhardwaj, Professor Jitendra Meena and other activists and civil society members was heading to Parliament Street police station to meet senior police officials.
CPI(ML) Liberation, in a statement issued on Friday night, said Bora was initially taken to an Anti-Narcotics Task Force facility in the South-West District and was later shifted to another location. The party said a legal team had been deployed to follow up on her detention.
It also said Dipke had been detained outside his place of stay ahead of the Tiranga march and that his whereabouts were unknown. The party demanded the immediate release of Bora, Dipke and all other detained protesters.
CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas said an AISA representative had informed him that Bora was picked up by Delhi Police at Mandi House while on her way to join the 'Lehra Do Tiranga' protest.
"Taken away alone, without her phone, her whereabouts are now unknown," Brittas said in a post on X.
"Detention cannot become disappearance. Delhi Police must disclose where Neha is, ensure her access to her family, friends and comrades. Moreover, police should explain the grounds for her detention," he said.
CJP legal head Ratna Singh had also demanded that Delhi Police disclose the whereabouts of Dipke and Bora, insisting that their families and lawyers be informed of their location and legal status.
"Where are Neha and Abhijeet? Delhi Police must answer," Singh said in a post on X.
Police sources said Dipke was detained at Jhandewalan while on his way to Connaught Place, while Bora was detained at Mandi House.
Delhi Police said around 150 people had been detained as part of efforts to maintain law and order and ensure smooth traffic movement. Security personnel cordoned off Central Park in Connaught Place, with Rapid Action Force personnel deployed inside and additional forces stationed in the area.
