New Delhi: The Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line (Line-8) is set to become the network’s longest corridor, with the highest number of interchange and underground stations, following newly approved expansion plans.

With the Centre clearing Phase-V (A), which includes the extension of the Magenta Line from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha via Central Vista, and the integration of the Indraprastha-Inderlok corridor under Phase-IV as part of Line-8, the corridor will see a major transformation.

Once these projects are completed, the Magenta Line will stretch approximately 89 kilometres from Noida Botanical Garden to Inderlok, making it the longest route in the Delhi Metro system. The entire corridor will operate as a driverless line, further strengthening its position as one of the most advanced stretches in the network, said Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director (Corporate Communications), DMRC.

Currently, the operational section of the Magenta Line has four interchange stations — Kalkaji Mandir, Botanical Garden, Janakpuri West and Hauz Khas. After the completion of Phase–IV and Phase–V (A), the total number of interchange stations will rise to 21.

The new interchange stations to be added include Kalindi Kunj, Chirag Delhi, Terminal-1 IGI Airport, Peeragarhi, Pitampura (Madhuban Chowk), Haiderpur Badli Mor, Majlis Park, Azadpur, Pulbangash, Nabi Karim, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, Indraprastha, Delhi Gate, New Delhi and Inderlok.

Among these, Central Secretariat, Azadpur, New Delhi and Inderlok will function as triple interchange hubs, connecting three different Metro lines each and significantly improving cross-city mobility.

On completion, the 89-km-long corridor will comprise 65 stations, of which 40 will be underground. Officials said the expanded line is expected to ease congestion on key routes, cut travel time and offer seamless connectivity across Delhi-NCR.

The Magenta Line is also home to two major engineering feats within the Delhi Metro network. Haiderpur Badli Mor is the highest elevated station, with a rail level height of approximately 28.36 metres, while Hauz Khas is the deepest underground station, located about 29 metres below ground level.
