Police and villagers prepared to retrieve the body, but as they reached down, the man sat up, declaring he was alive

Madhya Pradesh: A shocking incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district left both police and villagers stunned when a man believed to be dead suddenly stood up after lying motionless for nearly six hours.
The unusual episode took place in the Khurai rural police station limits. Locals spotted a man lying face down in the mud along the roadside between Dhanora and Bankhiriya villages. Since he had not moved for several hours, villagers assumed he was dead and alerted the police.
Station in-charge Hukum Singh arrived at the spot with his team and even called for a hearse van. By then, a large crowd had gathered to witness what they thought was the recovery of a body.
The moment of shock
Just as police officers and villagers bent down to lift the man, the unexpected happened. The supposedly lifeless man twitched, moved, and then stood up. In a faint, trembling voice, he said, “Sir, I am alive”
The scene left everyone speechless. Some villagers rubbed their eyes in disbelief, while others stepped back in fear.
Police response
Police eventually sent the man home safely. The unusual incident quickly spread across the district, with locals referring to it as “The Return of the Dead.”
The reason behind the collapse
When questioned, the man explained that he was extremely drunk. On his way, he had stopped by the roadside to relieve himself but lost balance and collapsed into the mud. His intoxication was so severe that he remained motionless for hours, unable to get up. His motorcycle was later found parked nearby.
Still shaken, villagers described it as something straight out of a ghost story. One onlooker said: “We thought it was a corpse, but to see him suddenly get up and speak, it felt like a ghost story come alive.”
