Chennai: Tamil cinema star Vijay’s new political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has announced that members who consume alcohol will not be allowed at its first state conference on October 27. The party has also established some etiquette rules for attendees.
N. Anand, the General Secretary of TVK and a former MLA from Puducherry, issued these rules based on Vijay’s instructions. Anand stated that party members should not attend the conference if they consume alcohol.

The advisory also emphasises the importance of providing protection and support for women attending the event. Members are also reminded to follow road rules and not disturb other vehicles. Those arriving on motorcycles should refrain from performing stunts.
The TVK advisory requests that members ensure proper facilities for medical teams and fire and rescue personnel on duty during the conference.
Vijay previously announced that the party's political goals and action plans will be revealed at this conference. The Tamil Superstar in a statement had said, “Our first-ever state conference will be celebrated as a political festival and celebration of ideologies that will guide us and the goals that we will achieve. The conference would spell out the ideology based on which the party will function.“
He also said that preparations are underway and will soon be intensified. Vijay mentioned that Anand would meet with local officials to secure permission and ensure safety.
Originally, the conference was set for September 23 but was postponed due to permission issues. TVK received official recognition from the Election Commission of India (ECI) on September 8. There were earlier objections regarding the party's name, but Vijay confirmed that all issues have been resolved.
Vijay stated that the party is ready to compete in the 2026 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. He founded the party in February and clarified that TVK would not participate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, focusing instead on the state elections.
He noted that his fan club, the ‘All India Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyyakam,’ has been working for public welfare for years but needs political power to bring about significant change.
In August, Vijay unveiled the party flag, featuring red and yellow colours with a flower resembling Vaagai and 28 stars, symbolising victory, as ancient Tamil kings did.
In the 2021 local body elections, Vijay’s fan club won 115 out of 169 contested seats, while other parties, including Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam and Seeman’s Naam Thamizhar Katchi, did not win any seats..
