Kolkata: Forensic surgeon Dr. Apurba Biswas and an autopsy assistant arrived at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office on Wednesday for questioning related to the rape and murder case of a woman doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College. They have been called in to discuss procedural mistakes noted during the post-mortem, which was conducted after sunset on August 9.
The victim's body was discovered in a seminar hall on the college premises on the morning of August 9. This marks the third time Dr. Biswas has been summoned by the CBI for questioning; he was first interrogated on September 22 and again on Tuesday. On the same day, the CBI also questioned Sanjay Vashisth, the Medical Superintendent and Vice Principal of R.G. Kar.

On September 22, Dr. Biswas informed reporters that a neighbour, who claimed to be the victim’s uncle, urged for a quick post-mortem. Investigators are curious why Dr. Biswas did not report this insistence to hospital or police officials immediately.
The CBI has highlighted two significant lapses during the autopsy: it was conducted after sunset, which typically violates protocols, and the autopsy was completed in just 70 minutes - unusually fast given the case's seriousness.
Meanwhile, former principal Sandip Ghosh and former SHO of Tala Police Station Abhijit Mondal are scheduled to appear in a special court in Kolkata on Wednesday afternoon concerning the same case.
