The launches include an Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft for the Indian Navy, a Hybrid Electric Methanol-Ready CSOV for the offshore renewable energy sector, and India’s largest Trailer Suction Hopper Dredger

Kochi: Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) is set to launch three technologically advanced vessels on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in a powerful display of India’s shipbuilding excellence and commitment to sustainable maritime development under the Maritime India Vision 2030 and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
“These launches will showcase India’s engineering excellence, indigenisation drive, and commitment to sustainable maritime development,” said CSL in an official statement.
The first vessel is the Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) for the Indian Navy, the sixth ship under an eight-vessel contract signed in 2019. The 78-meter-long, 896-tonne craft can achieve speeds up to 25 knots and features advanced underwater sensors, lightweight torpedoes, ASW rockets, and mine-laying capability. “It will replace the Indian Navy’s Abhay-class corvettes, enhancing near-shore anti-submarine capabilities with improved automation and endurance,” CSL stated.
The second vessel is the Hybrid Electric Methanol-Ready Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV), marking CSL’s entry into the offshore renewable energy market. Measuring 93 meters in length and 19.6 meters in width, the vessel is equipped with hybrid-electric propulsion, methanol-ready engines, large lithium-ion battery packs, and a motion-compensated gangway system. The vessel will support offshore wind turbine commissioning and maintenance, serving as a “floating hotel” for technicians, designed to world-class comfort and noise standards.
The third vessel, DCI Dredge Godavari, is India’s largest and most advanced Trailer Suction Hopper Dredger, built in collaboration with Royal IHC, Netherlands. It measures 127 meters with a dredging depth of 36 meters and a hopper capacity of 12,000 cubic meters. “This project embodies the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision, bringing world-class dredging technology to Indian shores and strengthening the nation’s port-led development,” CSL said.
Together, these launches represent a ₹2,000 crore investment, reaffirming Cochin Shipyard’s leadership in naval, commercial, and green maritime sectors.
