New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced a protest in Delhi on October 10 if Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar does not resign, with the party saying supporters from across the country will gather in the national capital.

The proposed demonstration will be held at Jantar Mantar and will remain peaceful, CJP founder and convener Abhijeet Dipke said on Saturday.

The party has been demanding Kumar's resignation over what it alleges are irregularities in the electoral process and the conduct of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

Dipke said CJP members and supporters would travel to Delhi from different parts of the country for the October 10 agitation. He also said the protest would continue even if authorities attempted to restrict the gathering.

The CJP said its demonstration would follow a strictly non-violent approach, drawing inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi's principles of civil resistance.

The party also warned that attempts to prevent protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar would not stop the agitation. According to Dipke, any location where protesters are stopped could become the site of their demonstration.

The announcement comes a day after the CJP held a protest at Mumbai's Shivaji Park on Friday. The party said thousands attended the gathering despite police restrictions, with protesters demanding Kumar's resignation over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls.

Calls for a fresh protest in Delhi were also made during the Mumbai demonstration if Kumar did not step down.

The CJP said the October 10 agitation is intended to bring citizens together around its demand for what it describes as free and fair elections.
