Chandigarh Police register FIR in the death of senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar following wife`s complaint & suicide note naming senior officials.

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Police on Thursday registered an FIR in connection with the death of senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, following a complaint by his wife, senior IAS officer Amneet P Kumar. The FIR was lodged after Amneet wrote to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, demanding immediate action against those named in her husband’s suicide note and lifelong protection for her family.
According to officials, the case has been registered based on the detailed complaint and the suicide note left by the late officer, which allegedly names several high-ranking Haryana Police and administrative officials.
Wife seeks justice and security
In her letter to the Chief Minister, Amneet expressed deep sorrow over the loss of her husband, describing him as “a distinguished and decorated police officer who served the state and the nation with integrity, courage, and dedication.” She recalled that Y. Puran Kumar, a recipient of the President’s Medal for Meritorious Service, was “a symbol of honesty and discipline, and also a source of inspiration and strength for the Scheduled Caste community.”
She alleged that despite the presence of “a clear and detailed suicide note naming those responsible for harassment and humiliation,” no FIR had been registered even 48 hours after the incident. Amneet stressed that the suicide note should be treated as a dying declaration and “vital evidence” in the case.
Allegations against senior officials
Amneet alleged that influential figures within the Haryana Police and Administration were attempting to delay the registration of the case. She claimed these officials were “influencing the Chandigarh Police to delay action.”
Citing the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, Amneet wrote that “no preliminary inquiry is permissible once a cognisable offence under the Act is disclosed.”
She also voiced concerns for her family’s safety, warning that the accused could “attempt to malign or implicate her and her family.” She sought the Chief Minister’s “personal intervention to ensure justice and protection.”
Appeal for action and family protection
In her letter, Amneet had urged authorities to “immediately register an FIR against all those named in the suicide note and complaint,” and demanded “suspension and arrest of the accused to prevent interference in the investigation.” She also requested “permanent security cover for the family, especially for her two daughters, who are under mental distress and fear,” along with protection for the family’s dignity and rights.
Calling her husband’s death “a test of faith in justice, equality, and the rule of law,” she wrote that “the silence of the system only deepens the pain of the family and the community that looked up to him.”
Amneet appealed to the Chief Minister to “take swift action so that justice is neither delayed nor denied.”
