Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her marital home in Katara Hills on May 12

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case into the death of Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old former model-actor who was found dead at her in-laws’ residence in Bhopal earlier this month. The agency action follows directions from the Supreme Court of India, which ordered that the investigation be taken over and completed expeditiously.
According to officials, the CBI has booked Twisha’s husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. The case relates to allegations of dowry harassment and suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.
Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her marital home in Katara Hills on May 12. She had married Samarth Singh in December 2025 after meeting him through an online matrimonial platform. Following her death, her family alleged harassment and dowry-related abuse by her in-laws.
While Giribala Singh has secured anticipatory bail, Samarth Singh remained absconding for over a week before surrendering before police in Jabalpur on May 22. Legal proceedings continue, with the Madhya Pradesh High Court adjourning a related bail hearing to May 27 after the defence sought additional time to respond to petitions challenging the relief granted.

The case has also seen multiple forensic reviews. On court orders, a second post-mortem was conducted by a team from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. Forensic experts have indicated that the final report will take time due to pending histopathology, toxicology, and viscera examinations.
Twisha’s family has raised concerns over alleged injuries and inconsistencies in earlier examinations, calling for a more detailed forensic assessment, including radiological analysis and correlation of neck injuries with ligature marks. The investigation is now being supervised by the central agency as legal proceedings continue.
