Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered several issues in the inquest report related to the R.G. Kar rape-murder case, according to sources on Friday.

One of the main problems identified was that the magistrate had only 20 minutes to examine the victim’s body, which is unusually short given the gravity of the situation. In legal terms, an inquest report is meant to document the findings of a police officer or magistrate when investigating sudden, unexplained, or violent deaths. This report aims to determine the cause of death and whether it was unnatural or suspicious.

Investigators believe that this rushed examination contributed to the hasty preparation of the inquest report, similar to the autopsy, which was completed in just 70 minutes.

The inquest report also lacked detailed descriptions of the wounds on the victim’s body. There were also no clear descriptions of various exhibits found near the victim at the time of examination.

The investigators have also noted considerable contradictions between the post-mortem report and the seizure list provided by the city police, who initially handled the case before the CBI took over following a Supreme Court order. These contradictions include inconsistencies regarding the victim’s clothing.

The victim, a female doctor, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the seminar hall of the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. So far, three individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.
