New Delhi: Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was detained by Pakistan Rangers after inadvertently crossing the international border in Punjab, officials told PTI.
Constable PK Singh of the 182nd battalion was apprehended across the Ferozepur border on Wednesday. He was in uniform and carrying his service rifle at the time. According to officials, the jawan was accompanying local farmers near the border area and had moved ahead to rest in the shade when he accidentally crossed into Pakistani territory and was taken into custody.
A flag meeting between BSF and Pakistan Rangers is currently underway to facilitate the jawan’s early release. Officials noted that such incidents have occurred in the past and are typically resolved through established procedures between the two border forces.
The development comes in the backdrop of heightened diplomatic tensions, with India taking a series of measures against Pakistan for its alleged role in sponsoring terrorism, including the recent Pahalgam attack.
