Separately, a Bangladeshi police officer was detained in West Bengal while allegedly attempting to illegally enter India.

Kutch: In a coordinated operation on Saturday, the Border Security Force (BSF) captured 15 Pakistani fishermen in Kori Creek near Border Outpost (BOP) BBK, along with their engine-fitted country boat. The operation was jointly executed by personnel from the 68 Battalion, 176 Battalion, and the BSF Water Wing, with crucial support from local patrol boats and high-speed patrol craft. The forces carried out a systematic search of the creek and adjoining waters, which eventually led to the interception of the foreign vessel and its crew.
In a separate case the same day, BSF troops in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district detained an officer of the Bangladesh Police who was found attempting to illegally cross into Indian territory near the Hakimpur Border Outpost. The arrest occurred between 6 pm and 7 pm, when the officer stopped during routine patrolling. On inspection, security personnel recovered official documents that verified his identity and confirmed that he was a senior-ranking member of the Bangladesh Police.
The individual was immediately placed under custody and subsequently transferred to the West Bengal Police for detailed questioning. According to officials, instances of serving Bangladeshi law enforcement officers attempting to cross clandestinely into India are exceptionally rare. An inquiry has been opened to determine the intent behind the move and to assess whether the officer acted independently or as part of an organised setup.
Authorities emphasised that the India-Bangladesh border, which extends for 4,096 km, remains one of the world’s longest and most challenging frontiers to monitor. Of this, 2,217 km runs through West Bengal alone, making it a particularly sensitive zone. The North 24 Parganas sector has historically been vulnerable due to its thickly populated settlements, river-based landscape, and proximity to major urban centres. These conditions are regularly exploited for smuggling, infiltration attempts, and illegal migration activities.
