Police have conducted mock drills, intensified CCTV surveillance and installed technical equipment for threat detection, while temporary traffic restrictions are planned during VVIP movements.
New Delhi: Security has been tightened across the national capital ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit, with around 15,000 Delhi Police personnel and 200 companies of paramilitary forces mobilised for the two-day event on September 12 and 13.
The summit will be held at Bharat Mandapam, with Heads of State, government leaders, ministers and foreign delegations expected to attend. Delhi Police has put in place a multi-layered security system covering the summit venue, airports, hotels and other locations where visiting dignitaries may travel or hold meetings.

VVIP movement to bring temporary traffic restrictions
Delhi Police has issued advance advisories on temporary traffic restrictions in areas affected by VVIP movements.
Special Commissioner of Police (Protective Security Division) Manish Kumar Agrawal said the restrictions would be imposed according to the time, day and date of scheduled VVIP movements.
He clarified that the advisories do not mean that routes will remain completely closed. Traffic may be temporarily halted during VVIP movements, as is normally done for protected dignitaries.
Police have urged Delhi residents to follow the advisories to avoid inconvenience during the summit.
Multi-layered security at summit venues
Security arrangements include access control, verification, vigilance, surveillance and emergency response mechanisms.
The routes to be used for VVIP movement have been extensively surveyed, while preventive measures have been taken to identify and address potential security threats.
Delhi Police has coordinated with multiple agencies, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Commerce, National Security Guard, Intelligence Bureau and Central Armed Police Forces.
Coordination meetings have also been held with neighbouring states to monitor intelligence inputs, border security and the movement of people and material.

CCTV surveillance, mock drills conducted
Police have been deployed across different sector zones in the New Delhi area, while CCTV networks are being continuously monitored.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Sachin Sharma said mock drills had been conducted and technical equipment installed to detect potential threats. Emergency arrangements have also been put in place to facilitate a quick response and evacuation if required.
Drone restrictions in force
The Delhi Police has also warned against the use of unauthorised aerial platforms during the summit.
Agrawal said any unauthorised sub-conventional aerial platform detected in the airspace would be treated as a rogue drone. Aerial security measures have been put in place in coordination with the Indian Air Force and the NSG to deal with drones and other aerial threats.

Focus on security with minimum public disruption
The Delhi Police said the arrangements are aimed at ensuring the summit is conducted safely while keeping inconvenience to the public to a minimum.
The force has cited its experience in handling major international events, including the G20 Summit and other large-scale programmes, as part of its preparations for the BRICS gathering.
