A handwritten bomb threat found aboard an Air India flight at Delhi’s IGI Airport triggered an emergency response early Friday morning

New Delhi: A bomb threat aboard an Air India flight at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport triggered a high-level security operation in the early hours of Friday. The scare began around
4 am when a crew member discovered a handwritten message on a piece of tissue paper claiming, “There is a bomb on the Air India flight.”
The discovery prompted immediate action by airport security and Air India authorities. The aircraft was evacuated, and a comprehensive search was conducted by bomb disposal squads and security personnel. Passengers were screened, and luggage was thoroughly checked as part of the emergency protocol.
\Following rigorous checks, no explosive device was found on board. Authorities later confirmed that the threat was a hoax. “A non-specific security alert was detected on one of our aircraft. Standard security procedures were duly carried out and the aircraft has been cleared for the next flight,” Air India said in an official statement, reaffirming its commitment to the safety and security of passengers and crew.
Airport operations were not significantly affected, though the incident caused brief delays and heightened alert levels.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the origin of the fake threat and identify the individual responsible. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of legal action against those found culpable.
This incident adds to a growing list of security-related hoaxes in recent months that have led to costly operational disruptions and heightened concerns about aviation safety.
